We've Got 9 Awesome Home Workouts to Get You Beach Ready Quick

It's bikini season! Ready or not, it's time to hit the pool and show some skin — no more hiding under sweatpants. If you're not quite ready to show off that body, you're not alone -- but don't fret. Our favorite nine home workouts this summer will get you in ship shape in no time.

All I'm asking is that you give it a month. Thirty days from now, you'll be looking great.

Now it's time to stop procrastinating and get that butt off the couch!

I'm not asking you to spend hours in the gym every day, either. All you need is 30 minutes a day, a little space in your living room, and some good old fashioned determination.

The best part is that a month from now you'll not only be looking great, but you'll also feel better. That's not a bad trade-off for just 30 minutes a day of exercise!

What Are the Essential Types of Exercise That I Should Be Doing at Home?

When you're doing your home workouts this summer, three types of exercise are essential. First, you need to do cardio. Cardio is anything that gets your heart rate up for an extended period. Cardio is where you will burn the most calories.

The second type of exercise that you should be doing is strength training. You can do strength training with just your body weight, or you can add dumbbells or bands for extra resistance. By doing strength training, you will tone and tighten your body. If you want to look great in that teeny weeny polka dot bikini, then you have to do strength training.

Core work is the third essential type of exercise that you need to work on this summer. Do you want to flatten those abs and get rid of your love handles? Well, then you need to do core work. Working your core will also strengthen your lower back.

According to Harvard Medical School, you should also work on flexibility and balance. The yoga flow workout is excellent for both of those.

How Often Should I Do Home Workouts?

The Journal of the American Medical Association, along with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, says that you should be doing 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobics every week. That's just 30 minutes of cardio five days a week. You can do that!

If you want to cut your time down, you can do just 75 minutes of aerobic activity a week if you bump it up to vigorous-intensity. Several of the workouts on our list will give you vigorous cardio exercise.

On top of that, you should also do some strength or resistance training at least three times per week. Ideally, you want to work on every major muscle group at least twice every week.

What Equipment Do I Need for These Home Workouts?

You can do all of these home workouts without any special equipment at all. But if you really want to get into swimsuit shape quick, then there are a few things that you can get to make your workouts even more effective.

First, you can use light weights with some of the workouts. If you want to use dumbbells with the boxing routine, for example, you should stick to one or two pounds tops. And speaking of the boxing workout, you can also use a jump rope.

Another piece of equipment that you should invest in this summer is the mini band. Exercise bands, sometimes called mini bands or loop bands, are inexpensive and easy to use. They look like giant rubber bands. Believe it or not, those giant rubber bands will give you the butt and thighs that you've been dreaming of, and they are portable enough that you can bring them with you and use them anywhere.

The 9 Killer Home Workouts to Get You Beach Ready Quick

In no particular order, here are nine of our favorite home workouts this summer.

1. Self 30-Minute Strength and Conditioning Workout

The first of our home workouts this summer is the 30-minute HIIT workout from Self. HIIT stands for high-intensity interval training. We really love the HIIT workouts because they give you three types of exercise for the price of one. We put several HIIT workouts on our list for your summer training.

This Self routine gives you plenty of cardio and core work, but it also gives you full-body toning.

This routine will take you through short intervals of cardio mixed with strength training into one circuit. Each circuit leads into 45 seconds of recovery. You will do just three total circuits in this short 30-minute routine.

Another thing that we love about this workout is that you don't need any special equipment.

If you have any knee problems, then you will want to do the modifications for the exercises because this beginner to intermediate workout is pretty high-impact.

2. Leslie Sansone's Fast 30-Minute Walk

The next of our home workouts this summer is all about walking. This workout is very low impact, but it will still burn plenty of calories and fat. It just won't hurt your knees. If you want to look great in your bikini this summer, then you have to burn off your excess body fat. This video will certainly help you do that.

You might be tempted to think that a walking video would be boring, but you'd be wrong about this one. Leslie Sansone is very motivating in this beginner to intermediate routine, and the beat of the music will keep you moving. The movements in this workout are very fast, but they're easy to do.

If you have a little extra space in your living room, then you have everything you need to do this workout.

When we talk about the essential exercises that you should be doing, this routine will give you all of the cardio that you need. You can do this workout on its own, or you can combine it with the core work video or one of the strength training workouts.

3. Sydney Cummings' 30-Minute Butt and Thigh Burnout

This year the high cut swimsuit styles are all about showing off those legs and butts. So this next home workout is ideal for getting those gorgeous gams in tip-top shape.

The only piece of equipment that you will need for this workout is an exercise band. One of the things that we love about this workout is that it's ideal for any fitness level. If you want to make it harder, you can use a stronger band. Likewise, if you need to make the exercises easier, use a lighter exercise band or skip the band altogether.

Sydney Cummings does a great job of keeping you motivated through this tough routine. She uses a ladder method with each exercise, adding two reps to each set, building to one last killer set.

For your essential exercises, this workout will give you strength training and some balance work.

4. Popsugar 30-Minute Fat-Burning Full-Body Workout

Popsugar brings us the next of our home workouts this summer. This is another challenging HIIT workout that uses intervals of cardio mixed with intervals of resistance training.

We love that this video shows the exercises along with two different modifications so you can take it at your own pace. This workout is appropriate for all fitness levels. If you want to make it harder, you can add a mini band.

Another thing that we love about this workout is that it gives you all five of the essential exercises, including cardio, strength, balance, flexibility, and core work.

This workout also hits all of the major muscle groups in your body. If you use the miniband, you will get double the work in your butt. After you do all of this glute work, you'll be proud to wear your cheeky swimsuit this summer.

5. MadFit 20-Minute Total Core Workout

The next of our home workouts is all about your core. You need a strong core for all of your daily activities. But a strong core will also flatten out your abs so that you look killer in your bikini.

You don't need any special equipment for this workout.

Of all of the home workouts on our list this summer, this one is the shortest. However, it will still kick your butt. If you want that six-pack this summer, then you need to do this workout.

You will do all of the exercises for 30 seconds in this intermediate to advanced workout. Another thing that we love about this one is that you can do it as your only exercise for the day, or you can add it to the end of any of the other home workouts.

6. Popsugar's 45-Minute Boxing Workout

This Popsugar boxing routine is one of our most favorite home workouts this summer. This killer workout will give you your cardio, and it will tighten and tone up your entire body. If you want to look sexy in your swimsuit this summer, you can't forget about your arms. Boxing is one of the best ways to tone up arms, shoulders, chest, back, and core. And this routine will also work your legs and glutes.

You can do this whole routine without any equipment, or you can make it more challenging by adding light hand weights.

Instructor Christa DiPaolo does an excellent job of motivating you and taking you through all of the punches and kicks. She starts off with simple progressions and then works up to more advanced combinations.

Another thing that we love about this workout is that it is ideal for all fitness levels. Just a little word of warning, though. This boxing workout is super intense. You will burn a ton of calories and fat,

7. Self 30-Minute HIIT Workout with Tabata Burnout

The next of our home workouts that you should be doing this summer is the Self Tabata routine. Tabata is a form of HIIT that uses very short intervals. You will be doing 20 seconds of very intense exercise followed by 10 seconds of recovery and rest.

One of the things that we love about this routine is that it packs all of the core work, strength training, and aerobics into one short workout. I'm not going to lie, it's super tough, but the rest periods make it manageable.

This workout is very challenging, but it's still appropriate for all fitness levels, including beginners.

This Tabata workout requires no special equipment.

8. Alo Yoga 30-Minute Power Vinyasa Flow Yoga

No list of the best home workouts would be complete without power yoga. Yoga is excellent for toning. What I love about it is that it improves stamina, strength, and flexibility.

My clients often tell me that they can't do yoga because they aren't flexible enough. But that's the whole point of yoga, to make you stronger and more flexible. You need yoga even more if you're not flexible.

Yoga is incredible for stretching and toning. It's also great for balance.

You don't need any special equipment for this workout, but you could use some cute yoga leggings and a yoga mat or towel.

Another thing that we love about this challenging routine is that it is appropriate for all fitness levels.

Power Vinyasa Flow is a form of yoga that goes through the poses more quickly so that you can get a slight cardio effect from it. It will definitely get your heart rate up, and you will torch calories.

9. Popsugar 30-Minute Latin Dance Workout

If you love dancing, then this workout is for you. This routine is so much fun that you'll barely notice how hard you're working.

The Latin dance workout is all about fat-burning cardio. Try adding this routine to one of the strength routines or core work for a full body workout.

This routine is appropriate for all fitness levels, including beginners. Once you learn the dances in this video, you can go all out. You can even use some of the dance steps that you learn out on the dance floor!

You don't need any special equipment for this workout.

One Last Thing

You will get beach ready quick if you do one of our workouts every day for a month. You can choose the routines that you like the best and stick with just those, or you can do all of them.

One thing that I need to mention is that it takes more than just home workouts to make you look terrific in your swimsuit. You also have to eat right and get plenty of rest. The truth is, your diet and rest are just as important as the workouts.

And while we're talking about rest, it's also essential that you give your muscles a rest after you work them. That means that you don't want to do the same strength training routine two days in a row. One way you can do it is to work your upper body one day and your lower body the next day. Or you can alternate your workouts every other day between cardio and strength training.

Cardio, on the other hand, you can do every day. So if you find that you just love the Latin dance workout, for example, feel free to do it every day.
